folowen is a social media search tool that aggregates social profiles of people and organization's on several social media sites into one search result.
It simply makes it easy for you to follow a person or organization's social web; be it a Facebook profile, page, group, a Twitter account, a LinkedIn profile, a YouTube channel...etc.

Simply use the search box on the home page and enter the name of the person or organization you are looking for. A search result page will be displayed containing all the social profiles links we have found for your search query across the 27 social networking sites we are currently supporting. Each link will open the profile in a separate browser window/tab for you to view and connect to that person directly from that service. In addition, for some of the services you will be able to follow/connect with people/organizations in your search results directly from folowen.

Signed up users are able to save their searches for later view, select which services they would like to be included in their search results, and the most exciting thing is ability to connect folowen to some of the services so they can follow/connect to people/organizations directly from folowen. All these features are in the Settings page.

Simply no, they don't have to be folowen users at all! But of course, we would love it if they are!

folowen currently uses Google API to get the results you see, if a different person/organization with the same name has their page ranked/indexed higher on Google then folowen will get the same result.
For a person, always try to use their full name, like Tommy Lee Jones rather than Tommy Jones alone to get the same person you are looking for or if you know a nickname they always use as their username, you can use that as well to get the right result.
For an organization, always try to use the full name, like Amnesty International rather than Amnesty alone to get the same organization you are looking for.

There are two possibilities for such a result: a) folowen got empty results back from Google or b) the service changed the way it indexes profiles and folowen team didn't catch up yet! (We will keep monitoring the services regularly for this specific issue).

You can select the services you want your search results to include profile links for by visiting Settings/Services and unchecking the ones you don't want.

There are several reasons. First one is that not all services enable third party applications like folowen to connect to their website and retrieve or post information. Another reason is that some of the services that allow third party connections don't provide the ability to follow/connect directly from those outside applications. You can go to the service directory page to check the status for each of the services included in folowen to-date.
